"Understanding innovation is one thing; helping it move through the real world is how potential becomes progress. "
Youssef joins Acumen with a background in biomedical research and a growing interest in health policy and public affairs. With a PhD focused on triple-negative breast cancer and treatment resistance, alongside earlier studies in biochemical engineering technology, he has developed a rigorous analytical approach and the ability to work comfortably with complex scientific and technical topics. Over time, this evolved into a broader interest in the regulatory, policy, and stakeholder environment that shapes how innovation is translated into real-world impact.
Before joining Acumen, Youssef spent several years in academic research at KU Leuven, where he worked on translational oncology and cancer biology. Alongside this, he also explored the broader strategy and innovation ecosystem through initiatives such as iGEM and a Johnson & Johnson strategy case, which reinforced his interest in the path from scientific discovery to policy, implementation, and societal value.
As an Egyptian who has lived and studied in Belgium for over a decade, Youssef brings an international perspective and feels at ease in multicultural environments. At Acumen, he looks forward to learning from colleagues and clients from different backgrounds, while contributing his scientific mindset, structured way of thinking, and growing passion for health and life sciences public affairs. Outside of work, he is a big sports enthusiast, an aspiring triathlete, and someone who enjoys starting the occasional controversial conversation about music, food, policy, or all three at once.
